Random Thoughts In A Not So Ordinary World

The musings of Mindy Ferguson

Weight Loss

Jenny Craig

I am on a mission to lose 39.2 pounds in 2012. As a way to hold myself accountable, I've resolved myself to update this site with my progress. To date, I have lost 7.6 pounds and have 31.6 pounds to go. I signed up for Jenny Craig. I love the food and for me its all about just not having to think too much about how to eat healthy. In my case, it is about not forgetting to eat. I can go all day without eating and then when I get home, I can do serious damage to an already messed up metabolism. I love to eat healthy and have never had much of a sweet tooth so for me, the success comes from eating smaller regular meals all day. I really enjoy Jenny Craig and I love going in each Saturday morning for my weigh-in. Here's to the next 31.6 pounds.

Honolulu Marathon

Honolulu Marathon 2012

2012 is the 40th running of the Honolulu Marathon and I found it a fitting place to schedule what will be my first attempt at a full Marathon. 26.2 miles seems like a crazy long distance to run but earlier this week I was talking to one of my direct reports and just decided in the middle of our conversation to sign up and make it a goal. My direct report is an avid marathon runner and his enthusiasm for the sport is infectious. December 9, 2012 -- that is the date for my first Marathon!

I'm committed to losing 39.2 pounds this year. I've already lost 6.4 pounds and we are just underway in this new year. If I can lose the weight and accomplish a first marathon, this year will be a total accomplishment. So hold me accountable and let's get started. I'll be updating this site on a regular basis to discuss my progress. A goal for you is to pick something crazy and make it a goal for yourself this year. Let's make 2012 a GREAT year!

2012

Mindy Ferguson 2012

When I was in the 3rd grade, we each wrote a paper about what we thought life would be like in the year 2000. I still have that paper and I re-read it when we flipped our calendars to 2000. I was going to be a whopping 28 years old and I was pretty sure we would be able to hover instead of needing to walk. The Jetsons really led us to believe so much more would be possible by now.

In the 3rd grade, I wasn't able to think about the year 2012. It seemed like a crazy number so far into the future and I would turn 40 in 2012. As a 3rd grader, it didn't even seem possible. My parents were some of the oldest people I knew at the time and they weren't even 40 so in my mind, people who were 40 must be close to death.

My 40th birthday is in February. Last year, I went sky diving for my 39th birthday. It has caused a lot of people to ask me how I'm going to spend the milestone 40th birthday this year. I thought about going skiing in Aspen, sitting on the sand in the Florida Keys and almost everything in between. I have a definite plan for this year. Stay tuned and follow along with me as I make this year the year when life begins. Oprah says life began for her at 50. Life has been so awesome for me but this year will be even better. Stay tuned and join me right here on my adventure of a lifetime. Cheers to 2012. Make it YOUR best year ever!
